Highlights from the European Society of Cardiology Congress 2022

In the Special Session ‘Best of the European Heart Journal – Digital Health’ Simon Winther, MD, PhD, Gødstrup Hospital, Denmark was invited to give the lecture ‘Advanced heart sound analysis as a new prognostic marker in stable coronary artery disease’. The data presented showed that heart sound analysis carries prognostic information on long-term events such as mortality and myocardial infarction in patients with suspected coronary artery disease in the large prospective Dan-NICAD 1 study and may improve initial risk stratification of these patients.

Louise Bjerking, MD, Bispebjerg Frederiksberg Hospital - Copenhagen University Hospital, Denmark presented data showing that adding an acoustic-based CAD-score to the AHA/ACC pre-test probability can potentially reduce the need for further diagnostic testing by 17.6% in patients with intermediate-high likelihood of CAD and in subgroups a reduction of 35% can be achieved.
